Sending messages to your squads

There are 2 ways from your squads you can send messages to the rest of the squad.

Your organization must grant the ability to do these. So if one or both of the items below are not available, you can check with your organization's administrators.

Squad Chat

Each squad has a series of pages, one of which is Squad Chat. Authorized users can start new chat topics and reply to existing ones.

Topics are presented newest to oldest.

Anyone who is on the roster or linked to someone on the roster can receive an email or text with the squad chat content. They may opt out of these notifications.

Notifications are only sent if the squad is published by the organization's administrators. If you are a coach/manager, you will likely have access to the squad pages even when the squad is not published. You may still create content on the Squad Chat. Squad members will see it when they go to the squad's Chat, but they will not receive notifications when content is posted until an administrator publishes the squad.

Send Message

Authorized users can use the Send Message function to send a message to one or more people on the squad.

Some differences between Send Message and Squad Chat:

  • Send Message will not record anything on the Squad Chat, and replies will be made offline.
  • You may choose to send your message by email or by text (if you organization uses the text messaging feature). If you send via text, the recipient must have text messaging set up on their Account Settings. If they do not, they will receive all messages by email.
  • You may include or exclude individual squad roster members, unlike Squad Chat.
  • Send Message will get sent to anyone assigned to the squad as well as to users linked to participants on the squad.

Troubleshooting if someone says they did not receive your message

  • If no one received it, confirm with an administrator they have published the squad.
  • If only some people did not receive it, ensure they are linked to one of the participants on the squad. You can see that from the participant's profile, which you can get to from the Roster. You must check they are listed under the Linked Users section. Just because they are listed as a parent or as an Other Contact does not mean they will receive anything. They must have an Account, and that account must be linked to the participant in the Linked Users section.
  • If they are in the Linked Users section, ensure there is no status message next to their entry. For instance, they may have been linked but not yet accepted an invitation by creating an account. Or there may be errors reported from their email provider regarding the email address.
